Hitachi Ax M137 Manual Meat
Please help if you can! I have just bought one of these - initially I got it going OK although it did not retain the programmed channels after I had set them. Something I thought just needed further concentration and I would try again. However, it now won't play DAB (or FM) for longer than about 30 secs without the display going blank and a 'thump thump' sound coming thru the speakers. It won't let me scan for stations either before this happens. Can anyone give any advice on what I can do or look for, to rectify this problem please? I only picked the set up this afternoon and brought it home to install it.

I did put the unit next to the fridge freezer. Could this have damaged something due to the magnetic field or something? The CD works perfectly by the way! Hope someone can help to save a long trip back to Curry's in the morning. Bought the same unit today (Boxing day) at Currys, and it all worked great for ooooh 15 minutes, before the DAB reception started to choke, and then expire completely. It then lost all the FM memories, just before the whole audio amplification failed.

The DVD and CD still play etc, but they ain't much use with subtitles only - especially on the CD's! Suppose I'll see you all back at the store, but it's a real pity cos this one had a lot going for it, good spec, reasonable price and not bad looking either.
Well, I returned my unit to Curry's who were not the slightest bit interested in the fact that there are several of us having the same problem, and they replaced the unit with another brand new set - which had exactly the same problems. I went for the worst case scenario, and set the DAB reception up to a channel with speech only (in order to establish the earthy hum was present), then set the volume to level 3, which is where it appeared to be humming the worst, and left it like that for 15 minutes - guess what?
- the main audio amplifier failed again; no scanning of DAB or FM possible,; no display, but the DVD and CD's still function without sound!! I have now returned the unit for a full refund (£200), and bought the AX-M71 for £75, which has the same 2x50watt rms amplification, sounds!!! And looks the same, has RDS FM/AM, but does not play DVD's, has no USB input nor DAB, and though it has the same equaliser, bass and loudness functions, it does not give a graphic display on the amp - just an iluminated 'HITACHI'.
But with the saving, I can buy a DAB stand alone unit for £30 (the AX-M71 also has 2 aux inputs, for my existing DVD audio, and DAB or SKY). Download Free Fonts For Blackberry Bold 9780 here. It will play CD/CDR/CDRW/MP3, so I can either use MP3 discs, or use a lead from the 3.5mm headset jack of my MP3 player to two phono plugs for one of the aux inputs.
I know all this is a compromise, but I do like the Hitachi kit and another benefit is that it is not now tied up to my main TV room - I just hope it remains reliable. Hitachi UK refused to have anything to do with the problems I had, and stated that Currys/Dixons have imported these units directly and that they will not be supporting the audio products. A strange state of affairs when it has their brand name all over it!
